Noora Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 19, 2026
Noora is a prayer-times app made by Wajahat Mir ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information Noora uses and what happens to it.
The short version: Noora has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no servers. Everything the app needs stays on your device. We never see your location, your settings or how you use the app.
Information Noora uses
Your location
Noora asks for your device's location so it can:
- calculate prayer times for where you are,
- point the Qibla compass towards the Ka'bah,
- suggest a calculation method that suits your region, and
- switch to the dark theme at Maghrib.
All of this is calculated on your device. Noora saves your most recent coordinates on the device so that its home-screen widgets and prayer alerts can keep updating when the app is closed. Your location is never sent to us or to anyone else.
If you'd rather not share your location, you can choose a city instead. Noora stores the place you pick on your device and uses it the same way. The zikr counter doesn't need a location at all.
On Android, your device's location is provided by Google Play services, which Google's privacy policy covers.
Compass
The Qibla page reads your device's compass sensor while it's open. On Android, the reading is combined with your location to correct for the difference between magnetic and true north. This is calculated on your device, and the readings are used on the spot and never stored.
Your settings and activity
Noora stores the following on your device:
- your settings: calculation method, Asr method, high-latitude rule, Hijri date adjustment, alert sound, language and similar choices,
- the city you chose, if you picked one instead of sharing your location,
- your zikr counts,
- whether you've bought a premium plan,
- a copy of the day's prayer times and your premium status, which the home-screen widgets read,
- a record of when Noora last refreshed in the background, so it can tell you if your phone is holding it back, and
- small records that help the app decide when to show a prompt, such as the request to rate the app.
None of this leaves your device.
Diagnostics
Noora keeps a short record of recent errors on your device. It's never sent to us automatically. "Copy diagnostics" on the About page (the ⓘ in Settings) lets you paste it into a feedback message if you choose to. It doesn't contain your location.
Photos and the camera
"Share a photo" frames a picture you take or pick in a mihrab, with the date, a prayer time and your caption. The camera is only used when you tap Camera, and the gallery picker only gives Noora the one photo you choose. The photo is processed on your device and kept only while the page is open: Noora deletes it, and the image it made, when you leave. It's never sent to us.
Notifications
Prayer alerts and the Jumu'ah reminder are scheduled on your device by your device's own notification system. No notification server is involved.
Permissions Noora asks for
- Location, for prayer times, the Qibla, the method suggestion and the dark theme. You can choose a city instead.
- Notifications, only if you turn on prayer alerts.
- Alarms & reminders (Android), so prayer alerts arrive at the exact time.
- Battery usage (Android, optional). Noora can open your phone's battery settings so you can let it refresh its widgets reliably. It never changes the setting itself.
- Camera, only when you tap Camera on the "Share a photo" page.
- Photos, add only, when you save an image: "Save" on the "Share a photo" page, or "Save Image" or "Save Video" from the share menu (iOS). Noora can only add the image you chose; it can't see your photos. Android 10 and older ask for storage access for the same thing.
Services provided by others
A few features hand you over to a service run by Google or Apple. When you use them, that company's privacy policy applies.
- Purchases. If you buy Kahwa, Google Play or the Apple App Store processes the payment. We never receive your name, email address or payment details. To unlock the premium widgets, Noora asks the store whether your account owns Kahwa: when you buy, when you tap Restore, and each time the app opens. If a purchase is refunded, the premium widgets lock again.
- Rating the app. If you choose to rate Noora, the rating window is provided by Google Play or the App Store. We aren't told whether you rated the app or what you wrote.
- Feedback. "Share your thoughts" in Settings opens a Google Form in your browser. Anything you type there is sent to us through Google Forms and stored in our Google account. We delete responses after 12 months. Sending feedback is entirely optional, so only include what you're comfortable sharing.
- Sharing. When you share a prayer card, your device's share menu sends it to the app you pick, as an image or a short video with a line of text and a link to download Noora. It contains only what's shown on the card, never your location. A photo you share from "Share a photo" is sent the same way.
Backups
If backups are turned on in your device settings, Google or Apple may include Noora's settings and its record of recent errors in your device backup, and that backup can include your most recent location. On Android, Noora leaves your premium status out of backups; the store restores it instead. These backups are controlled by your device account. We can't access them.
What we don't do
- The app doesn't collect, sell or share personal information.
- We don't use advertising, analytics, crash reporting or tracking tools.
- We don't build a profile of you or track you across other apps or websites.
Children
Noora isn't directed at children under 13, or under the minimum age for digital consent in your country. Because the app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, it doesn't collect any from children.
Your rights
Because Noora keeps your information only on your device, you control it directly; see Deleting your information below. The only personal information we hold is feedback you choose to send. We process it with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. To see or delete anything you've sent, email us.
Deleting your information
Everything Noora stores is on your device. To delete it, uninstall the app. On Android, you can also go to Settings → Apps → Noora → Storage → Clear data. To stop Noora using your location or camera, turn off that permission in your device settings. Uninstalling doesn't remove existing device backups; you can delete those from your Google or iCloud account.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version at this address and update the effective date. If a change affects how your information is handled, we'll also mention it in the app's release notes.
